Rat-L-Traps

This time of year, why not?

I have had great luck using these types of baits with water temps as low as 42º. In spring these baits become more of a throw and wind lure. However, this time of year I have had to make some really strange presentations. The idea is to fish the lures as slow as possible even stopping completely several times during the cast. All of my trap targets are flats containing old dormant grass. The best areas are where the bait will land over grass but end up slowly swimming into deeper water. I make long casts and try to keep the bait touching grass. The old grass is the key to this type of presentation. This is because you can rip the bait out much easier than in the warmer months where the green grass is so strong.

This map shows places that are located close to deep water but not necessarily the river or creek channels

These places are located next to a major creek channel or deep water located in the major creek

The map below is showing areas where the deep water is created by the river channel
