Jigs

I keep my fishing very simple and even more so with jigs. In winter I still use pork from time to time, a confidence thing I guess. My colors are always pumpkin, brown or black with a mix in of red, blue or chartreuse. I like 1/2 oz jigs, 90 percent of the time. Jig fishing on Guntersville as a winter/early spring approach can be very, very good. I concentrate on fishing areas with maybe less grass and deeper more wide spread cover. My best areas are cover such as rocks and stumps, and are always from 4 - 12 feet. Water temps may be near their lowest point at this time. However, jig fishing should be tried anytime.

Looking at my map I look for points similar to the areas I have marked. Deep water near by is nice. This Lake is covered with these areas so finding new areas will take some trial and error. I am also looking for two things, bank cover and evidence of deeper cover. I might feel it or see it on electronics, even then feeling is the next step. My best jig fishing as well as the most dependable is fishing cover that is in 6 - 14 feet of water. Your best area will always be the Isolated cover you find. All of the areas marked have some winter cover that have produce chunky bass year after year. Some arrows maybe lay downs, other arrows have scattered Stumps in 8 - 14 feet. A few have a single lonely one ton oak stump in 12.5, ok Good  Luck You are on you own, now.

Now that we have brought up isolated cover. These arrows show places to look for to find Isolated cover. <<That was a Hint. The most exciting part to me about jig fishing on Guntersville is the same cover seems to continue to work every year. When I know my jig in near cover I will try many cast as well as a few different wiggles for the bass to see. And more so, I try casting from different angles. After all we are "Angling" right? Many times a new angle on the same cover must be done if I want that bite.
