Remember, you can always check water levels at the TVA Web site

(7/29/05) Water temps at 87-88, Grass still way behind below South Sauty. If you remember spring fishing the the lower end it still about the same, grass and pattern wise. Rat bite is on up in Mud Creek area, or so I hear. I don't get up the much.

(7/5/05) Water temps at 85-88. Grass still disappointing below South Sauty. Slimy hydrilla dominate the river with very poor mats. Still holding fish, however. Shallow grass not much better. Good rat mats in a few places but very limited. Grass doing better as you go up with a nice flipping line.

(5/29/05) Water temps still upper 70's due to a few cloudy and rainy days in a row. Water was over full to start the weekend and fell gradually over the 3 days and ended up on the low side. Grass is still amazingly behind years past but is now topping out in some areas and the flipping and top water is starting to tick. Bass are summer patterns all the way.

(5/21/05) Water temps are getting past warm and approaching hot. 77-79 on the main lake and up to 85 in the back waters. I feel that even with the grass growing behind last year, it is growing faster. Not a lot of rain over the past weeks and not much in the forecast will provide ideal growing conditions. However, many areas will become quite clear and may bring in some tough fishing conditions. Most bass are on summer patterns with a few still roaming the shallows. The top water bite as a whole is still waiting on more grass to be closer to the surface but in a week or two, it will be prime.

(5/15/05) Did get out early this morning for couple hours and found water to be rather high. Did not check temp but would guess 73-74, but and educated guess. Grass rally looks good everywhere, just behind. I wish it would stay just like it is for awhile. Submerged grass bass are easier to pattern, for me anyway. Water color was quite clear in many areas with a little stain to the main lake.

(5/8/05) Water was still a very cool 68-72 for a May day. But Monday's hot sun likely bumped it up by 4 or better. Grass is still lagging behind but is a 1/2 foot taller every week, along the river and tiny greens shoots in the unpopulated pockets. Bass are 80 percent post spawn and scattered in 4-10 feet on all kinds of cover. There is a large number of bass that did not spawn at all. Too busy eating the billion shad I see on my graph.

(4/30/05) Water level remained low today and even fell a few inches, despite Friday night storms. Water color was stain the plum muddy in many places do to run off and wind. That wind has blown every Saturday for a month. Grass is still slow at growing but it is green and will grow like crazy over the next few weeks. Grass coverage is wide spread on the main lake but it is way behind in the coves and creeks.

(04/23/05) Water level low and stained in many areas due to high wind. Decent current all the time. Grass is right at a month behind last year but it is growing and bass are there too. Shallow water grass may even be further behind but it will come back over night once the weather gets stable. Temp at 67-71. For the most part, I thing the spawn is happening to deep to see any bed and will be over soon, if not already. Most anglers will never know it happened.

(3/05/05) Wind was the main factor today. Many areas were pretty muddy as a result. Water temp ran 51-54 in most places with the water level well below full pool, rising very slightly during the day. Grass is still dormant but some little green shoots are popping out everywhere. Most bass are being caught in 0-8 foot grass.

(2/26/05)  Ran around some today and found water at 51-2 degrees. The day was cold and windy but the hot sun ran water to 56 by 2, spring may have sprung. Main lake stained to muddy in many area with the back water clearing fast.

(1/08/05) Getting off the new year with a warming trend is a nice start. Water temps at 54, feels like spring. I am sure that these temps will suffer over the next few weeks but the bass are very active and this is going to be one heck of a year.
