Upcoming trip - any advice greatly appreciated

Postby hoodman1 » Mon Apr 09, 2012 4:25 pm

Hello all,

I am planning a trip to Guntersville in about 10 days with my father. Have not had the opportunity to fish with him for over 25 years. So really looking forward to this trip being special. Have never been to Guntersville but heard so much about it. It will be about an 8 hour journey for us (southern Ohio). I have been on Wilson and Pickwick before and had some minor success at Wilson but no luck at all on Pickwick. Needless to say, being brand new to Guntersville looking for any advice at all that anyone can share on locations, lures, hotels, boat ramps, etc. Basically any information that would help a first timer make the trip extra special for his father. Really appreciate any advice that you can share and would love to make this a regular trip for the future. Thanks so much in advance, Greg

Welcome to the site, Solidox put together a good link on boat ramps http://www.fishinglakeguntersville.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41, As for where to stay depends on area you want to fish, From Guntersville to Scottsboro you have so many options and places to stay it will be hard to list them all. Here is a link to the Guntersville area hotel/motels http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=guntersville+hotels&fb=1&gl=us&hq=hotels&hnear=0x8889f8c1dd9a8515:0x25904d9dbf197dbc,Guntersville,+AL&sa=X&ei=xjKET6CPEYqc9gTa79HMCA&ved=0CCYQyBM . here is Scottsboro hotel/motel locations http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=JJc&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1280&bih=638&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=scottsboro+hotels&fb=1&gl=us&hq=hotels&hnear=0x8861eee05dbd8549:0x90c2e9f1ec964bff,Scottsboro,+AL&sa=X&ei=VDaET8WuMoOY8gSFn5WjCA&ved=0CCAQyBM. I posted on another thread and I will link you there to save me lots of typing. It also contains the link to Jason's map on areas to fish. http://www.fishinglakeguntersville.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=607. I know this is a in general reply and I will follow up better if need as I was headed out the door. Maybe some of the others will help out with suggestions before I get back.
My boat is old, My rods aren't pretty. Those things let me fish when I want to.

COVER water. If I had to put a person on fish I would do these things in this order ;)

Spinner baits in thicker yet deeper grass 3-12' Gold for sun and silver for clouds.

Carolina rigs Main and Secondary points with scattered grass or no grass, find rough spots. 8-14' Creature bait of your choice

Shore cover with small baits for fun or big baits for a chance at a lunker.3-6'

Pop R sea walls.

Bream fish

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Thanks for participating on the http://www.fishinglakeguntersville.com/ Website.
