Pickwick (Mcfarland)
Pickwick (Mcfarland)
Had a club T up there this weekend and it was the first time I had been there. We launched from mf and started out by running up to the dam but didnt have any luck nor break anything thankfully, I seen people running wide open all over up there but we only found one rock pile 2' under the water and it was down near an old spillway or something near the first bridge. I didnt realize how big that place was, I bet a strong west wind and current make's it pretty rough. We ended up catching a bunch of little fish on brushhogs in the creeks and I got one 15" sm from a bridge piling on a jig. Cant wait to make it back out there, it's a nice change of scenery from gville and I really want to get into some more of those smallmouth...

Something I've always wanted to do is target smallmouths, I've caught them but they were at the dam and on bait when fishing for stripes.
My boat is old, My rods aren't pretty. Those things let me fish when I want to.

Pickwick is a great lake. Some of the best smallmouth fishing is in the winter on grubs and hair jigs. I caught my personal best smallie on Pickwick which was a 7lb 3oz female. Got that one mounted! I may see if I can figure out how to post a pic of it. Glad you had a good trip down there.

best part about them is they don't quit. and go ape when they see the boat.

Re: Pickwick (Mcfarland)
my memory of my tournament days if a lot of boats are running, then no one is catching fish.

10% of the fishermen catch fish on 90% of the lake.
