Backing and leaders
Backing and leaders
Does anyone have experience with backing with braid and then using a fluorocarbon or mono leader? I have seen on a few websites where some of the pros do this. Basically they fill their spool with braid and then put on a 5 or 6 ft leader. In theory it is easier to cast, lasts a long time, less costly, and more sensitive. I have never done this but it is intriguing to me. Anyone here do this?
Re: Backing and leaders
I use mono leader on my crankbait rod. Since I am using tiny braid.
But, that is not your question. Have not heard of that.

Re: Backing and leaders
I think that is the same concept. I may try to put some braid on one and a fluorocarbon leader for Texas rig and see what happens.
Re: Backing and leaders
I've heard of this and tried it but I didnt like the knot running through my guides so I downsized to a 2-3' flouro leader on the front of braid for jigs.
I would agree you get more feel and power but the down side is your introducing a breaking point that wasnt there before with your double uni knot.

Re: Backing and leaders
did some checking online and found some pros said they like the mono for its stretch, and the fluorocarbon feel.but knot strength is down with the fluorocarbon.i guess that include the Palomar knot.
