Charging batteries question.

Postby bamabower » Mon Feb 14, 2011 12:10 pm

I got my trolling motor switched to 24 volts and I for the life of me can't remember how to hook the battery charger on the batteries for 24 volts. It's a standard 10/2 amp charger. Below is how the batteries are wired.

Not knowing myself I would say that the safest suggestion would be to unhook one side of the cable (blue in your pic) that connects the batteries in series. Then take your charger and charge each battery individually (one one day, the other the next).

If I had to guess though, the only way it seems to me that it would work to charge simultaneously is hook the - of the charger to the - that you have the black going to and the + of the charger to the + of the red lead battery. I have no idea if this would cause damage to batteries or charger.

Sorry, I have an onboard charger, I think it has 4 leads and wires to each battery seperately on my trolling motor bank.

In line I do not know. My charger is hooked individually (2 bank) and Mine motor is wired like yours.

I just found out that I can't charge them in series. I need a 3 bank charger but I need a gps/fishfinder first.. Sure wish I could crap money and pee excellence. I'll get one of those cheap battery tenders and use that with my charger until I get my fishing account regenerated. Wife wont let me dip into the grocery money.
